In this brief blog post, we\u2019ll explain what geoparsing is and how you can use the Python library developed by a former geography student at UZH.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Geo-what?<\/strong>&nbsp;Geoparsing involves recognizing and resolving place names (toponyms) in unstructured text, such as news articles and social media posts, by linking them to their corresponding geographical locations (source: <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.geoparser.app\/en\/latest\/index.html\">Irchel Geoparser \u2014 Irchel Geoparser 0.1.8 documentation<\/a>). These geoparsed place names can then be mapped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.geoparser.app\/en\/latest\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Irchel Geoparser<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;is a Python library developed by Diego Gomes during his Master\u2019s thesis in Geography at UZH.
